No one goes alone to the Jobcenter!
We reactivate our meeting for everyone who already does or wants to
accompany people to the JC: Next week: 7th of November and from then
every 1st wednesday of the month. 6pm at Schererstr. 8. You find information in german, why we accompany each other here.
Solidary against isolation!
No one goes alone to the Jobcenter!
How can we get more people into our political organization? What bothers you as you are constantly part of the daily routine of the jobcenters, but are not yet a part of our structure? How can we get closer to each other and together put political pressure on the injustice of the jobcenters?
With the (un-)regulary happening school of the poor we try to find answers to all of theses questions. They should create a space to get to know each other, to exchange views and ideas and to make plans. All that between us, who are already part of BASTA! and people, who are interested in our political work.
All details about our motivation, content and a reflective retrospect you can find in the brochure, that we now finally put together for the first school of the poor. If you are interested in physical copies you’re welcome to write us an E-Mail. The brochure is bilingual and the digital version you find here: german & english.
By the way, we are currently preparing the third round of the school of the poor, so if you want to be involved, we would be also happy, if you could leave us a contact.
We do summerbreak during August. The last councelling day will be:
Tuesday 24th of July, 2 – 5 pm
Wednesday 25th of July, 10 am – 2 pm
Thursday 26th of July 3pm – 6pm
Tuesday 31th of July 2pm – 5pm
See you at the street party on 4th of August.
your friendly initiative of unemployed people has some news for you. Since 01.01.2018 there are new upper rent limits, which the Jobcenter has to pay due to a new regulation (AV-Wohnen) introduced by the Red-Red-Green Senate in Berlin. That sounds good at first, but still there are 86.000 households whose rent is above these limits. These households have to pay the rent not covered by the Job Center out of their standard Hartz-IV rate. They therefore have even less for living than the normal-minimum budget. This causes different problems i.e. late rent payments which leads to the terminantion of the rent contract, loss of flat and in the face of tight housing market also to homelessness. In addition, we have the impression that the job center does not inform about the raised rent limits, and does not automatically adjust to the new limits since 01.01.2018 for the cost of accommodation (KdU).
Deportations are the last link of a chain of racisms, that refugees experience in Germany. Whether at our counselling or during the support to appointments, at BASTA! we regularly get to know the racist state violence. Due to racist discourse, legislation and the practice at state agencies, we see the intention to divide and heat the competition within the society – of course for capitalist exploitation aims. We defend ourselves against this economic and state acces and want to answer every exclusion from the society with solidary practice. Let us be allies! That’s why we support the demonstration: “stop all deportations” and call you to join it. Come to the BASTA!-Banner!
racism kills! capitalism kills! – we want to live! BASTA!

Monday 9th of October 5 o’clock preparation meeting for germanwide actionday against Amazon!
On 24th of November 2017 there will be a germany-wide actionday against „Amazon“. This company owned by the richest man
of the world is known for its bad working conditions: Work on demand, „click-working“ without any working rights and the logic of
„hire and fire“ are daily practices of Amazon.
Also the Jobcenter is trying to get many people to the rat race of Amazon Logistics.
Especially shortly before Christmas they offer minijobs and short term contracts. Jobcenter Charlottenburg organizes for example an „employerdating“ with
We want to stand up for working rights, good living conditions and good payment and therefore BASTA wants to support the action day. We invite you to develop an action of unemployed people for this day. For more information check https://blackfriday.blackblogs.org/ There are already some actions planned but our creativity should not be limited because of that.
The first meeting will take place on monday,
9th of Oktober 5 o‘clock at Schererstr. 8 in our counselling room.
Finally, the time is ripe: We want to invite you to the second round of the school of the unemployed. In five events we want to share our experiences with the jobcenter-system and develop skills for a self-confident way of acting. But we don’t only want to deal with stressful things that we are already confronted with every day, we also want to take a look beyond and think about alternatives and possible ways to reach them.
All events are prepared collectively by people who came to BASTA! for counseling and proposed themes responding to the emails of the last weeks and months. They are supported by people whom you know from counseling and who participate in shaping BASTA! as a political project.
And because together we are so much more entertaining, productive and encouraging than alone, even if we are kept being told the opposite, we are looking forward to welcome you in the school of the unemployed!
Sa/So 11./12.03.2017, each 2-7 pm at Sprengelhaus, Sprengelstr. 15 in Wedding
Theater workshop – Less stress at jobcenter appointments
This workshop is an experiment. It’s mainly addressed to people who want to accompany other people to their appointments at the jobcenter. By means of exchanging experience, small roll plays as well as body and voice action we want to improve the perception and expressiveness for an appropriate appearance. The workshop will be lead by a dramatics expert, who reactivated her experience of working with groups for this purpose. Please wear comfortable clothes (which may get dirty), bring plenty of beverages and if available a yoga mattress. Outdoor shoes are strictly prohibited in the workshop room! Beginning is punctual! The number of participant is limited, please request by mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.

Developing text modules – Letters to the jobcenter on a level playing field
Based on own experiences respectively our correspondence with the jobcenter we want to exemplary present three different actual situations (request for annulment of an „Verwaltungsakt“ at social law court and objection on a „Maßnahmenzuweisung“; how does the jobcenter make income from existing and known wealth; counterproposal or rather modification proposal for an „Eingliederungsvereinbarung“). Afterwards we want to answer your questions and want to create an inter-exchange on how to effectively react on the behavior and letters from the jobcenter.

The sanction regime and media star Sanktionsfrei.de
Most of us have already made experiences with the sanctioning regime of the jobcenters. How was this pressuring strategy developed further? How can we defend ourselves? Help is much needed. A „service of experts“ promises solutions – „sanktionsfrei.de“, Batman of the unemployed? Our David against Goliath?

„If not Us, who else“ – Extraparliamentary (political) structures by and for unemployed and precarious people
Unemployed people – and sometimes working people, too – often experience that their legitimate desire for a life without material need is not being met by society. The politicians responsible for change are either not willing or not capable of improving the situation. In worker’s unions and NGO’s the case doesn’t look much different. The hope for improvements that some set into the Federal Institutional Court are also regularly disappointed. Reason enough to think about what we can change.

„Not just a piece of the cake, but the whole bakery!“ – Unconditional basic income versus equivalent economy
Economy as basis of human existence provides all necessary goods and services. But how is it organized? And how are decisions made about who gets how much? The present state with its extreme inequalities cannot be rationally explained and is deeply unjust – so far the two groups that prepare this evening agree. Against the current situation they propose two different models: A basic unconditional income, that all people are entitled to and of an amount that is truly enough to live, and an equivalence economy, in which working time is a central measure and it is only produced what is really needed.
And at 9 pm: Live music by Bert Kartesas & Miksĉifona „Contra gentrification and discrimination“
Against eviction! „For the luxury of a few many are deprived of their possibilities“ – why? In their songs Kartesas and Miksĉifona follow this question. Hope for human self-realization is the keynote of their texts and music.
Politicians of all parties and public authorities assume that unemployed and low-paid workers just didn’t offer themselves and their labour intensively enough and in the right way, that they didn’t engage enough in self-promotion as entrepreneurs of their own labour power. With this attitude the needless human suffering that accompanies austerity, ascetism and hard work is consolidated. The logic behind this is that in capitalism humans always have to do something for being considered their right to live.
The change of law concerning Hartz IV now states that those who increase, maintain or do not reduce their need of assistance have to pay back the Hartz IV benefits already received and do not get further benefits in the future.
Increasing one’s need for assistance means to endure every occupational situation in order not to have to apply for (more) Hartz IV. Bad conditions include excessive working hours, work intensification, subcontracted labour, senseless work, mobbing as well as unpaid extra work. If you quit your job because of this, to make matters worse, you become a debtor of the jobcenter. If you refuse a job, you do not only risk a 30% sanction of your unemployment benefits but on top a refund claim because of “antisocial behaviour” (sozialwidriges Verhalten). And the wages expected in the future are only paid as loans.
In this way people are pressed into exploitation at work, having to justify themselves in the case of job loss and beg for whatever job available. We from the unemployment initiative call this forced (extra) labour under the impression of the punitive state. And we are against it. Today it may be widely accepted as reasonable to be forced to produce unnecessary rubbish that harms humans and environment or provide useful services as unpaid volunteers. Our vision of a good life looks different. Contact us if you are put under stress by the jobcenter. If you want to file an objection against the accusations of the jobcenter there is suspensory effect on the refund claim of the jobcenter.
